What if I am Not HIPAA-Compliant?

Your Options Comments and Recommendations
1. Do Nothing Not Recommended! You run the risk of thousands of dollars of penalties and possible prison time (see Consequences of Non-Compliance for more details)
2. Develop all the HIPAA-compliant policies, procedures, processes, etc., yourself Not Recommended. The time requirements are estimated at 150 to 250 hours, assuming you possess the skill requirements (see Can’t I Do This Myself? for more details)
3. Have HIPAA Compliance Solutions, Inc. develop all the policies, procedures, etc. that you need to become HIPAA-compliant Highly Recommended. This custom-developed set of materials and guidance is all you need to become HIPAA-compliant for only $899.95*. See Here’s What You Get for more details.

*quoted price is for single-locations only; slightly higher for multiple locations
4. Have some other HIPAA consultant develop all the policies, procedures, etc. that you need to become HIPAA-compliant Not Recommended for clinics and/or offices with 15 or less employees. The main reason for the lack of a recommendation, here, is cost. This option typically costs $5,000 - $25,000, depending on the consultant, the scope of their assignment and the size of your operations. For larger operations, however, the cost may not be prohibitive.
5. Purchase a set of policies, procedures and forms via mail or the internet to comply with HIPAA Not Recommended! While purchasing such a set of materials is a necessary component of becoming HIPAA-compliant, it is not sufficient. Typically, such packages lack crucial training materials and sample agreements that can keep you out of jail. These materials, alone, do not address appropriate risk and gap assessment, like our interview process does. Finally, these fill-in-the-blank solutions look cheesy and unprofessional. To an HHS auditor, this would likely raise a ‘red flag’ of probable non-compliance in key, predictable areas. Don’t be fooled by such packages, as they can give you a false sense of security, while leaving you exposed to big fines and possible jail time.
